4–6 weeks before
Decide where you will celebrate, who is coming, your rough budget and whether anyone needs travel or accommodation. Agree on adult gift rules.
2–3 weeks before
Set the menu, divide cooking tasks, place orders and check dietary needs. Plan one or two simple activities for children.
The final week
Buy shelf-stable food, cook what can be prepared early, wrap presents and make a simple running order. Put serving dishes and table linens in one place.
The day before
Prepare cold dishes, set the table as far as possible, organise drinks and clear fridge space. Prepare playlists, quiz and games.
On Christmas Eve
Prioritise calm. Only cook what must be fresh and let guests help. A clear place for coats, presents and drinks makes the home run more smoothly.

What should be prepared first?
Food that keeps well, gifts, table setting and clear responsibilities have the greatest impact.
How can we reduce stress?
Serve fewer dishes, delegate and decide in advance what can be skipped.
What time is julbord served?
There is no rule. Early afternoon is common because it leaves room for the 3 pm TV tradition and presents later.
